Weekly Practice
FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT: Silence
Scripture: Mark 1:9-15
IT MAY SEEM strange to us that, between Jesus’s baptism and the beginning of his ministry, he was led on a forty-day fast in the wilderness. Once again, we see Jesus doing things differently than we would. When we encounter struggle, we look for any part of the problem we can control and get to work. But Jesus went off into the wilderness in silence before saying anything at all. In silence, we find freedom from the need to control our surroundings, and we also find help to rely on God in the midst of struggle. This week, practice silence by choosing one half day or one whole day to be completely silent. Tell people ahead of time what to expect, and communicate through writing when necessary.
Have a blessed week!
