Weekly Practice

PALM SUNDAY: Fasting

Scripture: Luke 19:28-40

FASTING IS SIMPLY the practice of saying no to something we usually say yes to, whether it’s food, entertainment, or a certain kind of privilege. Each no is a small kind of death, and we are reminded all the more of Jesus’s willing submission to death. We may also hear an invitation to die to some thing that is keeping us from hearing and responding to Jesus in obedience. Choose one of these suggestions to practice fasting this week:

• Fast meat, sugar, or another favorite food or drink all week.
• Fast one meal each day.
• Fast all food from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday.
• Fast from all entertainment, games, and/or social media.
