Weekly Practice

FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS & SELF-CONTROL
Tithing

THIS WEEK, TAKE on the practice of giving a tithe (ten percent) of your income to your local church. If this is a brand-new practice for you, it may seem impossible to start by giving a whole ten percent. It is important to start where you are able, instead of waiting to do it exactly the way you think it should be done. In this spirit, ask the Lord’s guidance to determine what percentage to give—perhaps five percent or two percent to begin. If tithing is already your regular practice, you may find the Lord asking you to increase the percentage you give. Whatever the amount, commit that money first, and use what is left for the rest of your expenses for this pay period. Especially if this is a new practice for you, make it as tangible as possible: get out cash or write a check, put it in an envelope, and bring it to place in the offering next week. This may feel risky. As we practice tithing, we also ask and trust our generous Lord of abundance to provide for us in ways we haven’t yet experienced. The apostle Paul encourages us: “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus”
(Philippians 4:19)

Have a blessed week!
