Scripture: Matthew 2:1-12
THE MAGI PUT their lives on hold and traveled for months—if not years—to worship a King who was not their own. Their actions demonstrate great humility, holy desire, and lives surrendered to God’s work in the world. This week, we will look to them as models for discipleship as we pray words of surrender written by John Wesley as a part of his Covenant Service. You may want to rewrite these words and post them in a prominent place where you will see it often throughout the week. Use it as a guide to prayer every time you see it. If you do not feel you are ready to pray these words, be honest with God and with yourself. You can add to the prayer if needed: “God, I want to want this, but I don’t. Please shape your desires within me.
Lord, make me what you will. I put myself fully into your hands: put me to doing, put me to suffering; let me be employed for you, or laid aside for you; let me be full, let me be empty; let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and with a willing heart give it all to your pleasure and disposal.
Have a blessed week!
