Entertainment Fast

Scripture: Matthew 21:1-11

OUR CULTURE IS saturated in entertainment. Thanks to streaming services and smartphones, we can dip in and out of other people’s stories all day long. We use entertainment to distract ourselves from the pain, mess, or boredom of real life—and that’s not inherently wrong. But we often end up distracting ourselves from the story of God that is found within the pain, mess, and boredom. This week, pull the plug on all entertainment. Instead of filling every moment with distraction, make peace with the silence. Read, remember, and ponder the events of Holy Week as you prepare for Easter. Follow Jesus’s activities in this week as recorded in Matthew 21-27. Allow the Jesus story to be the only story you enter into this week, and stay there.
