THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT: Recognizing Our Sin
Scripture: John 2:13-22
JESUS’S ACTIONS IN the temple show a clear picture of God’s wrath: decisive action against sin. Often, we assume that God’s judgment is connected to the passionate and unpredictable anger we are accustomed to seeing in humans, but Jesus offers judgment as the way to healing and peace. This week, take some time in prayer to consider what Jesus may need to clean out of you. Are there any desires, activities, or decisions that are cluttering your life and preventing full worship? As they come to mind, write them down and offer them to Jesus. Allow him to clear out and burn away the things that are harmful to you. Receive his healing forgiveness, and listen for any other instructions. If you have recognized long patterns of behavior or addictions, ask Jesus to help you engage others in the process of healing.
