PRACTICING WITH SCRIPTURE: Reading the Gospel of John

WHEN WE READ with formation in mind, we usually zone in on small portions of Scripture at a time. But this week, read through the entire book of John, just like you would read any other book or story. Start at the beginning, reading as often as you can, for as long as you are able at a time. Reading from start to finish allows us to see the big picture, noticing themes and connections we often miss when we read in smaller segments. Read with expectation and wonder, allowing the story of Jesus to capture your imagination and bring you in. When you have finished John, take time to consider and/or write down your reflections. How did you encounter Jesus in John’s writing? What did you see new or fresh reading it this way? Is there a particular message that left an impression on you while you read?
