    Weekly Practice

    FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
    Practicing the Ministry of Countenance

    Scripture: 1 Peter 2:2-10

ONE OF OUR greatest means of communication is our face. The way we look at the world and at people says a lot about what we think and what we value. An encouraging, peaceful countenance can offer blessing to someone without any words being said. But this practice is not about looking happy all the time. Fake or forced happiness does nothing to show others the goodness of God. Rather, this is a practice of awareness, as we become aware of whom we’re with and what our face is saying. It is also a practice of presence, being fully present in mind, body, and spirit wherever we are. Finally, it is a practice of examination, as we notice what is happening in our minds and hearts as it shows upon our face. The more time we spend basking in God’s wonderful light, the more it will shine on our faces.

    Have a blessed week!
